secondary-school-01

Secondary education has two levels; O’ Level and A’ Level. At each level students take recognised National exams; Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) respectively. At O’ Level students study a broad range of subjects such as Maths, Sciences, English, Art, etc. When they reach A’ Level they choose subjects which form combinations with strictly 3 principle subjects and a minor.

O' Level

The Ordinary Level or O’ Level is a four year program leading to the externally set, marked and certificated examinations from the Uganda National Examinations Board. It develops skills and understanding in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, History, Fine Art, Geography, Physical Education, Literature, and History for the first four years of secondary education. It combines a revised curriculum, high-quality support for teachers, and integrated assessment.

As a program developed with consistent standards, it enables reliable structured reporting to parents about the performance of their children, which has validity beyond the school. It also enables the school to ensure that students are properly prepared for UCE exams and the demands of the courses in A’ Level.

A' Level

A’ Level (Advanced Level) is a two-year program leading to externally set, marked and certificated UACE examinations from the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB). It develops skills and understanding in a students’ choice of subjects for the final two years of secondary education.

It is recognised at universities and colleges country wide and serve as a mark of quality and evidence of real ability for each individual student.

Core and Other Subjects

The core subjects in O’ Level subjects are English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Education, Physics, History, Geography, Physical Education, and History. Other subjects include Computer studies, Commerce, Fine Art, Entrepreneurship and Religious Education .

Tests & Exams

The Secondary program includes three types of tests; the termly progression exams at the end of each school term, the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams at the end of O’ Level and the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education exams (UACE) at the end of A’ Level. These tests are all mandatory.

Termly progression exams, UCE and UACE, provide teachers with a benchmark to inform their teaching and easily measure each child’s progress over time. The termly exams are internally marked and an individual report is issued at the end of every term. The UCE and UACE are externally marked, sent away to Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), and enable detailed, structured reporting to parents.
